Only the heat is transferred from the outgoing exhaust air. Stale, humid air, filled with odours (VOCs) is constantly replaced by fresh, pre-heated air.

VELUX smart ventilation works with an innovative twin-channel system providing dual alternating airflows passing through heat regenerators. This ensures constant air exchange in the room with a high level of heat recovery.

Each channel consists of a ventilator and a regenerator, alternating in function. One channel removes humid warm air from the inside to the outside, passes it through the regenerator, where the heat energy is recovered and then stored in the regenerator element.

Meanwhile, the other channel draws the cold outside air into the room, passes it through its regenerator, where it is pre-heated by the stored heat energy, before passing it through the ventilation flap and into the room. 
And then the cycle is reversed.
